Frequently Asked Questions
RETREATS & COURSES
Q: What is mind-body medicine? What does an integrative approach mean?
A: Luminary combines the most up to date research and health care approaches from the fields of physical and mental health. We believe that optimal health and wellbeing is found through an integrated approach, meaning, we provide a roadmap that addresses your body’s unique healthcare needs alongside a powerful opportunity to learn how to experience optimal relational and emotional balance. We help you identify your clearest path toward a fulfilled life by addressing your relationship with your body, with yourself, with your loved ones, and with your work in the world. Luminary is transforming the way healthcare is accessed in our society–we are empowering women with essential information to help them prevent physical and emotional challenges, rather than waiting to bring in support after complications have become significant enough to seek help.
Q: What is the daily retreat schedule like?
A: We can’t wait for you to experience the healing, grounding, and inspiring opportunities that await you throughout the retreat! We design our retreat days to balance abundant learning with space to savor, be present, and integrate it all. Q: What are the dates for the upcoming retreat?
A: The 7 day retreat starts February 25th-March 4th 2018. The pre-retreat coursework begins the week of January 28th, 2018 and the post-retreat coursework and group calls conclude March 23rd, 2018.
Q: Why do I need to register with a questionarre for the course?
A: We are committed to providing the highest quality retreat experience for those we serve. We ask all retreat participants to complete a simple questionarre so we can get to know you better. We use the information you provide us to to learn how we can best support your personal goals and aspirations. The application helps us ensure our course will meet your needs.
Q: How much does the Retreat and Foundations Course cost?
A: The 7 day retreat at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort is $2,850. This includes the pre and post retreat online course. This can be paid all at once, or in three scheduled payments. If you sign up before September 30th, 2017, you will receive a special early bird discounted price of $2,500.
Q: What is the best way to prepare for the retreat and make the most of the services while we are there?
A: Our course is designed to help you make the most of all we offer. The most important thing you can do is participate. Our Be Luminary Retreat includes a self guided 4 week pre-retreat curriculum. This will help you begin setting intentions for your learning experience, serve as a way to get to know yourself better, and help us identify your individual health and wellness needs and goals. Our pre-retreat curriculum sets you up for a successful retreat experience. Coursework includes introductory material on foundational Luminary concepts, personal inventories, and guided activities for self reflection and goal setting. Your pre-retreat materials help us personalize our content to best support your goals and health, and deliver a powerful customized wellness plan for you.
The best way to make the most of our services while you are on the retreat is to simply show up and be present. Allow yourself to grow, learn, engage, and connect with the facilitators and fellow retreat participants. And take full advantage of our “unplugged guidelines”–relish in limiting your phone and computer time to brief check ins with loved ones, and relearn how to feel whole and content away from work, emails, and social media.
Q: Can guys be luminary?
A: Of course! Men can benefit from the same mind-body medicine approach we offer in our women’s retreats, and can be a powerful influence for good in the world. They are an integral and beloved part of our community. However, we focus our services on women’s integrative health and personal development–which ultimately benefits us all. Guys–encourage the amazing women in your life to invest in their health and wellbeing! And don’t hesitate to reach out to us for a referral for similar resources for men.
Q: What will the meals and food be like on the retreat?
A: Our private Luminary Chef will be serving us delicious, organic-based, seasonally inspired meals infused with love and intention. We design our meals to nourish your body and exemplify our nutrition teachings. Meals with wisdom that you will savor all week long. Our menus are a way for you to actually experience, not just learn about, functional nutrition. Expect nutrient rich and wildly delicious menus.
Q: Are there vegetarian friendly meal options?
A: Absolutely! There will be nutrient rich and balanced meal options for those with special dietary preferences. Please make sure to let us know how we can best support your nutritional needs.
Q: What is the soul of your teachings? From where do you draw your inspiration?
A: Our teachings come from a fusion of all of our trainings, experiences, and education in physical and mental health, as well as our own personal journeys. Everything we share is informed by a decade each of clinical work and ongoing mentorships and trainings with those we respect most in our given fields. We are always learning and evolving. In particular we draw heavily from Functional Medicine, a host of therapeutic approaches including mindfulness based, acceptance and commitment, emotional resiliency, and interpersonal relational approaches, as well as the various lineages of yoga in the west. One of our greatest assets to our clients is in our curative, multi-resourced approach. But our most powerful teachers are our colleagues, students, and clients. We support and believe in the wisdom in each and every person. And above all wish to bring those we work with closer to their own self defined values and inspiration.
We draw inspiration from many places and teachers. We love science and evidenced- based medicine. Yet we also stay close to and draw inspiration from our own hearts and the creative art form of a well lived life. We relish in exploring various spiritual teachings. We welcome all traditions. We love stories. And we are excited for the opportunity to learn from you too.
Q: How will retreat participants feel supported and understood by Luminary facilitators?
A: We nurture a learning environment of mutual respect, caring, support, appreciation and collaboration. We believe that compassion rather than criticism transforms. We design our course work and retreat activities to allow for opportunities to share your learning and growth with fellow participants and facilitators–to listen, be heard, understand and be understood. You will be able to share your retreat course work directly with our facilitators, who will then develop a personalized wellness plan which will help you meet your goals and speak to your individual needs.
